Is the ‘Credit Crunch’ affecting you?
Wednesday, November 5th, 2008
Anxiety is with me all the time! Especially since we’ve been hearing news of the so called ‘credit crunch’.
Well, not necessarily with “me” but with almost everyone I meet lately. People tell me they’re worried about food prices, petrol prices, being made redundant: the list is endless. And I wonder just how much our collective anxiety is actually fuelling the very downward spiral that is biting now.
You’ve probably read about it – fear of spending money to put it aside for a rainy day means less money is passing through the economy and therefore sales are down, sales down means fewer staff needed, fewer staff means less expenditure, less expenditure means fewer sales….
Sometimes I feel like shouting at us all, collectively and of course, not personally or directly, where is our common humanity in these times? What makes us all, like lemmings, or headless chickens, follow the sensationalist negative press that is telling us it’s all misery and expense and bankruptcy out there?
Now you’re going to protest: “But people ARE losing their jobs!” I KNOW that. But my point is, how much will you allow your mood and expectations be affected by second hand news? Will you allow yourself to be a victim – job or no job? Or will you use this time as an opportunity.
When anxiety hits us for whatever reason, it’s time to do the ‘clearout’ and find out what on earth it is made up of, what is fuelling it, what we can do about it, and how a change in perception might change the course of our whole lives. If you’re ready to do something about your anxiety, you’ll probably want to know more about the Open Mind Guide to Dealing with your Anxiety.
In it I cover:
- how families get trapped in the ‘anxiety loop’ – children and parents getting caught up in an ever frustrating cycle of worry and anxiety
