Building a Stable Friendship

I was reflecting how I’d come to know you all just the other day and I thought I’d share with you how that is:
- I have worked with many of you, sorting out troubled times and helping you return to happiness and good health. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to work with you in this way, sharing your lives for a spell, and trusting that together we can find some answers for you. I am pleased that over the years such alot of you keep in touch with me by dropping in for your ‘check-up’ now and again and by sending me occasional e mails about your progress.
- A large number of you I have met briefly at Mind body Spirit fairs or Public talks I have given. Occasionally you leave me your details when I am otherwise engaged, and I add you to the mailing list because you have requested to be there. Those of you that have got to know me by e mail in recent months, have started making contact with me. And I’m glad that I have been of some help to you too.
- And another large number of you have been referred by people already here who are benefitting from the notices that I hope, enable you to gain some glimmer of insight into what might for you be a difficult time. You are the silent segment who may take some time to engage with me. That’s great too – there is no hurry.
Today I would like to share my thoughts about building links and friendships between ourselves and our communities. The stronger those links and ties, and the more frequent we communicate, the more peaceful our environment. Sometimes, it can be like moving a mountain, to reach out to someone in friendship, especially for those who have become estranged or isolated from our neighbours and friends, due to personal tragedy or depression. If you are detecting a slightly christian tinge to my message, well maybe there is. But I don’t come from a christian tradition. This is more I think about our common humanity. And more and more I’m beginning to see how perfectly normal the spiritual is…. Let me explain..
When I meet people depressed, anxious, isolated or in some kind of mental and emotional fix, the common feeling for all is that they are alone in the world and feel isolated. We might know mentally that we are surrounded by family or friends, but emotionally we cannot see things any other way than the way they are for us. Lonely and isolated.
It is at this point that we lose touch with the spiritual. There’s no lift, no greater purpose and no sense of belonging. Which of us hasn’t felt like that now and again?
However, reconnecting with the world, is really just about knowing that we belong here; that we have a purpose; that our life is meaningful to others; that we can change and affect things. A kind of synchronicity happens when you start to trust that everything will be fine – all you have to do is sort it! By Synchronicity I mean a curious sense of coincidence when we put out into our environment our goals, hopes and dreams, and lo and behold, they seem to materialise from nowhere!
You do not have to have a religious faith to feel this sense of, what I call, spirituality. But you do need to have a faith in your own effectiveness. Feeling effective and connected in this way, in my opinion, IS spiritual. It is our sense of belonging and our ‘at oneness’ with our hearts and our hearts’ expression that causes us to feel at home in our skin.
I would say that, underpinning everything I do, is this thread of reconnecting people up with their own hopes, dreams and aspirations.
Perhaps my own dislocated background and my own inner journey has developed in me the passion to spread this awareness of our sense of belonging. And I can be grateful for the events of my life that have brought me this far….even though some of them were unbearably painful.
On this side of those trials of life, you will start to metabolise your experiences, value them even, however painful, and in fact, use them for the benefit of others. What a privilege to share the benefits of your own journey with others.
Well, that’s just what I’m going to keep doing. You don’t think I’ve just sat here analysing it all? Everything I share with you, every product I produce, every way I work comes from my own journey through life. And you’re likely to get more of it!! So hold on tight!!
Pleasure to talk with you all.
