Are you for real?

When I started to compile the social proof I needed to show to my web visitors that there is a real person behind this site, I came across a load of sheets of personal statements about myself. At the end of every course, I always encourage everyone to write anonymous comments about the people they have just spent the previous 6 weeks with. It’s absolutely fascinating, that, what may have started as a pretty disparate bunch of hugely different personalities and styles, is, by the end of 6 weeks, a very cohesive and collaborative group.
When you do this kind of study and learning in a group, the kind that asks difficult questions of each other, and offers new perspectives and solutions to formerly impossible challenges, you start to see the humanity in all people, even those people who you would normally have avoided like the plague! And this is because, the courses explode the notion that there are ‘good’ and ‘bad’ people.
The way I see it, there are just people, with all their social programming set by all sorts of experiences past and present. We look at life then as if through a lens. Each lens distorts each of our realities quite uniquely, and if our programming is particularly self defeating, we end up with the strongest of lens, that’s probably covered in years of dirt, which we can no longer see through. It’s at this point that we need someone to intervene and clean the lens and, even, offer corrective eye surgery! Well I liked the analogy.
So on each of these A4 cards, each one belonging to a member of the group, everyone else leaves their comments. These are the snippets of comments that you’ll see in What Other Say section of the site. A lot of them indicate the huge growth that people have passed through on the courses, and it might be clear from some of the comments that people have either seen me on a one to one or been on other courses too. However, of course, the comments are anonymous which is why I uploaded them as an image on the original paper they were written! Take a look!
